Cala de Mijas (also called La Cala) sits in the middle of Mijas Costa, the coastal stretch between Fuengirola and Marbella. It’s quieter than Benalmádena and more residential than Marbella, which is exactly what many of our guests come for. We have three properties along this stretch — one in central Miraflores, one villa with a private pool in Riviera del Sol, and a three-bedroom apartment in La Cala itself with views across the golf courses.
Our properties in Cala de Mijas & Mijas Costa
- Vista Harmony — 3-bedroom apartment in La Cala with pool access and views over the golf courses. Sleeps 6. Popular with golfers.
- Villa Riviera del Sol — 4-bedroom villa with private pool and jacuzzi. Sleeps 8. Walking distance to the beach at Riviera del Sol.
- Miraflores Beachfront Luxury Apartment — Top-floor 3-bedroom beachfront apartment in Miraflores.
Why stay in Cala de Mijas or Mijas Costa
This stretch of coast is where you come if you want beach access without the crowds of Torremolinos or the price tag of Marbella. Cala de Mijas has one of the most complete centres along the Costa del Sol for its size — a working market on Wednesdays, a good selection of restaurants, three large supermarkets and a long beachfront promenade that connects to Calahonda in one direction and La Cala de Mijas beach in the other.
Riviera del Sol and Miraflores are urbanisations a few minutes along the coast — both have their own beaches, chiringuitos (beach restaurants), and a relaxed pace. This is the area we most often recommend to families who want a base they can leave a car at for a week.
Getting there
- Málaga airport (AGP): 30–35 km depending on where you’re staying, around 30 minutes by car. There’s no direct train; either rent a car, take a taxi (~€45) or use the Fuengirola train and transfer.
- Marbella: 20 minutes by car.
- Fuengirola: 10 minutes by car.
Practical notes
A rental car is genuinely useful here — public transport works but the area is spread out. Golfers should know there are six golf courses within a 10-minute drive, including La Cala, Mijas Golf and Calanova. The Wednesday market in La Cala (Parque La Butibamba) is worth a visit.
